Anyone else start a new year, take down their holiday decorations and all of a sudden want a decor refresh?! You’re not the only one.
My inbox has been flooded in the new year with of a lot of messages about home decor, home style & questions on where I buy most of the items for my home. I have to mention, we just moved, so getting a fresh new start in a new place was a great way to clean up, get organized and focus on decor details.

Now, let me start this post with the obvious – I’m no interior designer. I mostly shop at Home Goods, Pottery Barn, and Target (which by the way has some amazing pieces at the moment!) I have a couple of tips for how I personally decorate, but that might not be for everyone and that’s totally ok! Just like fashion, everyone has their own sense of home decor style – from bohemian, to farmhouse, to french chic, to modern. You like what you like!

Here are some of my tips & tricks when it comes to decorating your home:

1.) Pick a color scheme – what are you going for?! Light, dark, neutral, colorful?! I’d say that my style is a mix of farmhouse and french chic so I usually love neutrals & whites. I’ll add a pop of color with flowers or a throw blanket as the seasons change and I try to keep the bigger pieces in the room neutral. I absolutely love this farmhouse coffee table & I have this neutral machine washable rug coming my way next week! I also love this light runner rug as well. (And yes, I know what you’re thinking. I’m about to have a baby and all this light decor is not realistic. Well, I know people who make it work so I’ll just deal with that as it comes!)

2.) Get rid of clutter – This is a big one. Everyone has clutter! I honestly feel like I’m constantly picking up “clutter piles” and I don’t even have kids yet. Pick pieces for the room you are decorating that have storage. Drawers, shelves with baskets, a trunk for blankets. This helps at least hide the clutter instead of having it out and about for everyone to see.

3.) Pay attention to detail – It’s all in the details. I’m a total type A personality, so the littlest things catch my eye. Everything has to flow, go together and style well. From the look/color of the coffee table books to the coasters, those little details matter and can change the look of the room. P.S. I got these coasters for Christmas and love them, as they are both affordable and pretty!

4.) Add texture – Adding texture to the room adds contrast, shape and style. You can easily add texture with a pillowthrow, or pouf.

5.) Have a focus piece in the room – I love having a bigger piece in the room to catch the eye. We just got this amazing wall clock and it really does finish the look of the entire living room. Whether a big clock, a farmhouse window mirror, or a big piece of art, having a piece that’s bigger in size will catch the eye of your guests and really draw attention to the room.

Here’s to a fresh start, a clean house and some pretty new details in your home!

Lovely ideas and advices! I love much minimalistic look when it comes to interior and often use much natural colors too. Byt when I start decorating and adding accents – flowers are my power. The simplest room looks amazing with some flowers added.
