Let’s talk mascaras.
I’ve done a couple of beauty reviews on here in the past and mascara has always been included in those posts. Why?! Because I think mascara is a MUST. Even on those days when I don’t feel like getting ready, I still find myself brushing my cheeks with a little blush & applying a little mascara. It really makes you look more wide eyed and awake even when you are secretly not. (Whooo hoo!)
I’ve been loving a couple of mascaras lately and before I jump into all the details, let me first warn you that none of these are drugstore mascaras. My go-tos use to be Maybelline or Cover Girl brand but once I started using higher end mascaras, I couldn’t go back. Yes, drugstore mascaras are good. But these ones I’ve been using for over 6 months now are AMAZING. So worth every penny.
From left to right:
1.) Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Volume Mascara – I’m on my third tube of this mascara and I just love it. And “love it” might be an understatement. If you like thick mascara that makes your lashes more voluminous and full, this tube of goodness is for you!
2.) Givenchy Phenomen ‘Eyes’ Mascara – First off, how cool is this brush?! Leave it to Givenchy to design such a chic mascara. I was sent this mascara to review and surprising I’ve really loved using it. It works wonders on my lower lashes & on the top corner lashes that are hard to get to at times.
3.) Urban Decay Subversion – Now this is a mascara primer. And a really good one. I finished off a tube of this a couple of months ago and missed it so much I had to go get more. I use this on my lashes BEFORE I put on my regular mascara and it really makes a huge difference with volume and length.
4.) YSL ‘The Shock’ Mascara – Very similar to the Marc Jacobs mascara as it gives you very thick and full lashes. One of the other things I love about this one is that it has a light floral scent to it. The prettiest little detail.
5.) Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara – Once again, Givenchy knocking it out of the park with this super slick design. I’m not just talking about that beautiful packaging either! This Noir Interdit mascara has a brush that can bend at a 90 degree angle, getting to all your lashes thoroughly. Now this mascara isn’t thick unless you put on a couple of coats. BUT it does lengthen the look of your lashes like crazy (but with a less full effect).
So, what is my favorite?!
I’d have to say it’s a tie between YSL The Shock & Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir. Because full, thick lashes are my jam, these mascaras work best for me, giving me the results I love. But there are those days when I just want a simple coat to make my eyelashes pop & all of these do the trick fantastically.
Another one of my eyelash secrets?! This stuff right here. I’ve tried a lot of lash enhancing serums and this one is my favorite by far. I get the best results with not just longer growth in my lashes but they get thicker with more use. (I put it on every night before bed).
I know, I know, it’s expensive. BUT, it lasts for about 4 months and really works. (p.s. There might just be a majorly good deal on this lash serum during this upcoming Nordstrom half yearly sale. I’ll make sure to link it for you on Wednesday!)
Wishing you all a great week! I’m off to Vegas for our annual Stella & Dot HOOPLA conference/party & I couldn’t be more excited. Follow along with the fun on my Instagram – @ashdonielle
