Chokers. Statement pieces. Delicates. Layered jewels. Collars. So many necklaces but what style shirt do you where them with?
One of the most COMMON statements I get from women when talking about necklaces is “I never know what jewelry to where with what neckline.” I use to be so stumped by this. And then I kept experimenting. I would put on my outfit and try on different necklaces until I got a combination I thought looked the best. Now it’s easy. I can look at a shirt and say, “I need a bib necklace for this or a longer pendant necklace for that.” So I’m going to try to help you out today and hopefully teach you how to style your v-neck shirts, high neck blouses, turtlenecks and so on. Let’s jump in!
1.) The V-Neck Tee or Blouse
V-necks can be tricky. When wearing a simple T-shirt, I like to wear delicates. I’ll layer them at times, mix gold and silver and add a little fun to my outfit by layering it with a fun & different piece like the black Arc Pendant.
If I want to add a little more, I’ll add a longer pendant like the Rebel Pendant to add more pizzazz to the simple T-shirt and jeans look. One necklace to touch the skin, one to touch the fabric. It’s all about layering.
Below is another example of a v-neck style blouse. A little bit more trendy and fancy then a plain T-shirt so I layered again with some trendy jewels. Once again mixing silver and gold (remember NO RULES) and with one necklace shorter touching my skin and the other necklace longer touching the blouse. Also, keep in mind if I’m wearing a patterned blouse or shirt, I like to pick solid/simple colored jewels to accent the busyness of the pattern on the top.
2.) The Off The Shoulder Top
Oh off the shoulder tops, how I love you so. This was a HUGE trend this past spring and summer and will continue to be a popular trend into the fall. One of my favorite off the shoulder looks is paired with a collar style necklace. I think the look of the horizontal line of the top and the circular style of the necklace looks fun and different. An easy and simple look.
I also like wearing a shorter delicate necklace near the neck and then layering a longer pendant with these style tops like the look below. I think the combination of the exposed shoulders and the layered longer pendant actually makes you look a little slimmer. And I mean, who doesn’t want that?!?
3.) The Button Up Collared Boyfriend Shirt
Cue the choker. I LOVE this look, especially with fall and all the plaid flannels coming soon. The collar of these types of shirts can get tricky when choosing to wear long necklaces, so I like to stick to small delicate necklaces or the trendy choker look. You could even pair the choker with a small delicate necklace laying below it. The more the merrier.
4.) The Turtleneck
Turtlenecks. People seem to have a lot of trouble with this one. I love wearing light turtlenecks in the fall months and thick chunky turtlenecks in the winter. (It really is crazy how much warmer you are when your neck is covered!) But the jewelry options can feel limiting….guess what?! They aren’t. Most of the time when wearing a turtleneck, I’ll opt for a bigger hoop like earring or statement earring combined with a fun arm party or cuff style bracelet. If the neck is covered, bling out the ears and the arm. It’s that simple. If you still feel like you need something around your neck with the turtleneck, add a scarf.
The above look is my go-to when styling turtlenecks BUT that doesn’t mean you still can’t wear a necklace. (see below). You can totally rock a longer pendant style necklace with a turtleneck if you want….adding a little flair to the front of your shirt.
5.) Collared Shirt With A Sweater
Another tricky one. For this type of look, I usually like to pair a longer style pendant necklace that lays under the collar. If the necklace is too short, I think it looks a little weird when worn right under the collar of the neck. This would be another style where if the neckline is too tricky, wear some fun earrings, dress up a big arm party and leave the neckline alone.
6.) The Scoop Neckline
Another fairly simple one. Wear a couple of delicate pieces or follow the “one on the skin, one on the fabric of the shirt” motto. I also really like pairing round collar necklaces with this type of neckline as they mock each other in shape and have a fun look to them when worn together.
7.) The High Neckline Tee
I like to think of a plain solid high neckline shirt as a blank canvas. Everything placed on it or worn with it pops out at you and is easy to see. This is why I love wearing big statement piece style necklaces or layering a couple of multi length delicates with a high neckline shirt. Very easy to see and really stands out. This type of shirt style is actually probably the easiest to style for me….you can wear ANYTHING with this type of shirt. A big bib necklace? Small diamonds? A choker? It all looks good.
Well, there you have it. All different looks, styles, jewels & ideas. The biggest thing? There are NO rules. I’ve said it before. If you think it looks good, rock it. Style it. Wear it with confidence. That’s the best thing about style and fashion….everyone’s got their own way of expressing it & that’s what makes it so fun.
Have a great weekend!
