When I think of summer, I think of laying by the pool and I think BOOKS. I read more in the summer. Period. End of story. I can read by the pool, I can read on flights to and from summer vacations, I can read on the patio at 8pm with a glass of wine because it’s still light outside. So many opportunities to read and so many books on my list. I’ve compiled a list of books that are on my reading list for the summer and thought I’d share them with you!
1.) The Nest – Ok first off, how pretty is this book!? This is an “Instagrammable book” as far as I’m concerned. Mint & gold and recommended by Amy Poehler. Done and done. They say not to judge a book by it’s cover, but I’m SO judging. This one is too pretty to be bad right? This is a fictional novel that follows the story of a dysfunctional family named the Plumbs. Looks amazing and I can’t wait to dive in.
2.) Me Before You – Ok, I’m sure we’ve all seen the preview for this tear jerker movie. When I saw the preview, I knew I had to read the book first before I saw the movie. I like doing that sometimes. This is a story about a girl named Louisa who takes a job working for a guy named Will who is wheelchair bound. I’m pretty sure they fall in love and I’m pretty sure I’ll be crying at the end of it. (I probably won’t be reading this one on an airplane. #sobbingintheair)
3.) What Alice Forgot – I picked up this book because it was recommended to me from a couple of friends. It’s about a girl who wakes up with a bump on her head and doesn’t remember the past 10 years. Yes, 10 YEARS. The novel pieces together memories and stories of what actually did happen to Alice. It’s funny, romantic and hard to put down.
4.) I’ll Have What She’s Having – I picked up this book about a year ago and finally decided to give it a try. Talk about FUNNY. This is definitely the perfect book for summer; such a light and laugh out loud read. It’s basically about a girl’s journey as she tries out all different types of celebrity diets. It’s a riot!
5.) Find Your Extraordinary – Ok, OF COURSE this book is on my list. The author Jessica Herrin is the CEO and founder of Stella & Dot and someone I admire greatly. Talk about a girl boss. This book is encouraging, passionate and makes you want to live a happier life & be successful in all that you do. It’s such an inspiring book and really leaves you believing that you are capable of anything. If you need some “life encouragement”, this is your summer read.
6.) Eight Hundred Grapes – I haven’t read this one yet, but any book that takes place in a Sonoma County vineyard and includes wine, I’m all in. The back of the book says that it’s a story about “love, marriage, family and wine” – all of my favorite things. Looks like an easy read!
7.) Bread & Wine – (not pictured) Truth be told, I didn’t photograph this book because I wasn’t really sure if I was going to read it or like it. So much for judging a book by it’s cover. I started it and couldn’t put it down. I read 100 pages in about 2 hours and still wanted to keep reading. Shauna’s book is basically a collection of stories that will make you laugh out loud, cry and feel all the feels all in one sitting. At the end of each story, there is a recipe that had something to do with the story and that time in her life. I loved it. Every word of it. AND the recipes look easy and delicious. Matter of fact, I’m making her risotto tonight. She makes it sound so easy that I couldn’t not try it. (f.y.i. This is a religious/Christian book. BUT if your not religious, it’s very easy to read around it and still enjoy it thoroughly!)
Well, there you have it! The books I’ll be enjoying all summer long! If you have any recommendations for me, please leave me a comment! I would love to hear what you have enjoyed reading over the past couple of months. Happy Tuesday!
