During the summer I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup. Let’s face it, it’s too hot. You just sweat it off anyways or jump in a pool and rinse it off. I also don’t wear a lot of makeup in the summer because there’s just something so amazing about a good tan and how it looks and makes you feel. You don’t need makeup, you’re tan!
The more simple makeup in the summer, the better and more comfortable you’ll feel. Good looking makeup all starts with a good base, aka good skincare. First of all, drinking lots of water will definitely keep the facial skin cells looking fresh and hydrated. I also like using the Arcona Wine Hydrating Mask at least twice a week to keep my skin clear, dewey and hydrated. This mask is a game changer. I also use Lustro Face Oil 3 by Beautycounter on a clean face, right before bed. This oil just soaks in the pores leaving your skin bright and gorgeous in the morning. I also love that this oil is made organically and naturally with the use of essential oils and nothing fake.
As far as my summer makeup routine goes I always start with the Kiehl’s BB Cream as my base. This is usually all I use on my face during the summer. It blends perfectly into the skin and gives you SPF 50 coverage. That’s pretty amazing. In the winter I use the color “light” and in summer I use “medium”. If you want to try it out first, head to Kiehls and ask for a sample. They have the best sample packets! After covering my entire face with the BB cream, I sweep Benefit’s Rockateur Blush on my cheek bones. This blush is the perfect mix of a bronzer, highlighter and pink tone all in one. It’s perfect for a summer glow.
As far as eyes go, I’m currently obsessed with Smashbox’s Pro Matte Eye Palette. It’s small, perfect for traveling and has all the simple matte brown tone colors that I love using on my eyes. I like to be light on the eyeshadow and dramatic on the eyelashes. I start with one coat of Urban Decay’s Eyelash Primer and then finish with one or two coats (depending on if I’m going out for the night or if it’s just during the day) of Marc Jacob’s Velvet Noir Mascara. I was sent this mascara to test for free before it came out on the shelves and literally couldn’t believe people would spend $26 on mascara. Then I tried it. And kept using it. And it just got better and better. Then I ran out and immediately went and repurchased it. It’s an amazing mascara. Worth every penny.
Last but not least, I end with Fresh Sugar Lip Tinted Lip Treatment on my lips. I don’t like wearing a heavy or thick lipstick in the summer, so this lightweight, color tinted chapstick-like lip color is perfect. There is even SPF 15 in it, which for me, is a necessity in the summer. My favorite go-to colors are “Petal” and “Tulip”.
Well, there you have it, my simple summer makeup routine. Easy, lightweight and with sun protection. Remember, the lighter and less makeup the better! Happy Friday!
