Friday Favorites

Well it's Friday. You made it. Congrats.
I thought I would share with you today a few things that I'm currently loving...aka can't stop wearing, reading, or using. Why? Because it's Friday.....which means it's the weekend...which means SHOPPING.

1.) Cravings Cookbook by Chrissy Teigen - Ok, if you follow me on Snapchat (@adonielle) you know that I recently got this cookbook and can't put it down. If you loved Chrissy Teigen and John Legend will love them even more after you pick up this cookbook. It's full of pictures of them cooking, eating, living life and just looking darn cute together. Not only is there that, there are some actual amazing looking recipes that I can't wait to try. For example, "I Can't Believe It's Not Gardetteo's" & "Frito Pie Bar" are two of her recipes...HA! Count me in!

2.) Arcona Toner Pads - I first talked about these toner pads in My Morning Skincare Routine. They are still one of my favorite beauty items at the moment and I actually can't wait to wake up in the morning so I can use them. (Ok, that's sort of an exaggeration, but I do look forward to it....but by no means does it have me jumping out of bed in the am). They smell amazing, leave your face feeling smooth and clean and don't cause breakouts.

3.) "Amazing Grace" Lipstick by Charlotte Tilbury - I can't stop wearing this lipstick. This and "All Fired Up" by MAC are my two current go-to lipsticks at the moment. They both are fun pinks that add the perfect pop of color.

4.) Reina Neutral Necklace - This is one of the newest designs from Stella & Dot that is pure genius. It is a necklace that can be ALSO worn as a wrap bracelet! (enter raised hands emoji) It's a mix of brown, off white and gold beads that add such a boho style feel to any arm party. It's the perfect accessory for summer.

5.) Pointy Toe Lace Up Flats - If you read my most current blog post, you know that lace up flats are a staple in my wardrobe right now. They really add an amazing pop of color or a fun pattern to any outfit! Ripped jeans, a vintage style tee and lace up flats are my current jam. Not to mention there are so many cute ones out there! I fun are these?!?!

6.) Kiehl's BB Cream - Since it's been sunny this past week, I've been feeling like I need a little bit of extra sun protection on my face while out and about. I used this BB cream all last summer and found it to be a favorite once again. It is a tinted moisturizer BB cream that I apply first before any other makeup. It leaves a nice overall coverage and provides your face with over 50 SPF. It's a winner.

7.) Madewell Tees - Ok first off, I love everything about Madewell.  The stripes, the plaid, the button ups, the nautical's just a beautiful store. I'm currently loving their comfy tees, especially this striped one. You really can't go wrong with any of their tees - they're comfy, fit perfectly and have a vintage vibe to them. I'm also currently loving the style and wear of their "central shirts". I have this chambray striped one and I'm obsessing over this new bushwick plaid one

8.) Paddywax Apothecary Candles - My mom gave me my first Paddywax candle for Christmas and ever since then, I've been hooked. I currently bought two new blue Apothecary candles in downtown SF in the scents "Mint Leaf & Cardamom" and "Blue Sage & Lavender". Both smell amazing and are beautiful when lit. I love the blue color of the glass especially when the candle is lit in a bathroom.  Great candles, that last a while, for reasonable prices.

Well, there you have it. My current favorites on this beautiful Friday! (who am I kidding, It's raining here!) What are yours? Write me via my inbox or comment below. I love new ideas, fun finds and receiving your messages! Enjoy the weekend!

5 Must-Have Wardrobe Pieces

I'm pretty sure we've all heard of the "little black dress" that's considered a wardrobe MUST HAVE. A black dress is good to have on hand for anything. A wedding, a funeral, a birthday party, a cocktail party, a bachelorrette party or just a fun date night out with your hubby. You can always change the look of a little black dress with accessories, bags, belts and shoes. It's just one of those staple pieces that's good to have in your closet in case of emergency.

There are five other items that I consider "must haves" when it comes to perfecting my wardrobe. I like pieces that can be worn multiple ways, giving you multiple different looks. Things that can be worn casually, or dressed up if needed. So today, I'm sharing with you five wardrobe must haves that have made my life a whole lot easier.

1.) A Classic Blazer - I love love love my black blazer. Did you get that? I can't live without it. Actually I had a black blazer for YEARS and lost it. I tried living without it for 1 month and quickly realized that it was a go-to piece for me and needed to re-purchase one immediately. The best part about having a classic black blazer in your closet is that it can be worn with ANYTHING. You can wear it with your work attire, over a plain T-shirt with jeans, over a dress, with jean shorts, the list goes on.  It can easily dress up any outfit...for example, see above. It totally adds a different feel over a T-shirt and jeans than if I was just wearing the T-shirt and jeans alone. It adds a more "put together" feel that is perfect for those times of wardrobe crisis. (I know you've had one).

2.) A Good Pair of Ripped Boyfriend Jeans - When I think of comfy-cool jeans, I think of ripped boyfriend jeans. A little loose fitting but flattering at the same time. My ripped moto boyfriend jeans from Topshop are a regular in my wardrobe. They look good with a plain tee or tank and you can dress them up with heels or flats. Bonus: They are perfect for spring when it's not hot enough yet to wear shorts.

3.) The Perfect T-shirt - I did a post a while back about the perfect pocket tee which is still in constant rotation in my closet. It's really important to have at least a couple of T-shirts that fit you perfectly, are comfortable and are neutral colors (aka white, black, grey). They are good to have for wearing under sweaters, blazers, vests or for just everyday wear with jeans. If I find a tee that fits me well, I buy it in at least two colors. Jcrew literally has an entire section of their store devoted to t-shirts....aka they're an important staple for any wardrobe.

4.) A Good Layering Piece of Jewelry - So not everyone is a jewelry person and that's TOTALLY ok. Some people need easy accessories, that they don't have to think about but say "put together" when they wear it. If there is one piece of jewelry that is a staple in my wardrobe, it's a longer layering piece. Silver or gold? Whatever you will wear most. The Stella & Dot Rebel Pendant is still to this day one of my best sellers. You can wear it alone or layer it with a shorter delicate piece to add a little more pazazz. It's a classic, gorgeous piece that adds the perfect touch of pretty to any outfit. It matches with everything. Tees, dresses, pattern blouses, v-neck tops, collared name it, you can wear the Rebel Pendant with it. And it's just SO easy.

5. ) Lace Up Flats - Last spring, lace up flats became "a thing". Super popular, easy to wear and just plain cute. Well, it's spring again and they are JUST as popular, if not maybe even more. They are one of those shoes that can be worn with jeans, dresses, and even black pants for work. One of my favorite ways to wear them is just with a classic T-shirt and jeans. They add a simple pop of color and trust me when I say people gravitate towards them. Another great thing about lace up flats is that they are SUPER comfortable. I have a couple of pairs, different colors/patterns/brands and all of them have been so comfy. Lace up flats add an instant pop of gorgeousness to any outfit, which is why they are a must-have for me.

All five of these pieces have really made my life easier when it comes to styling outfits and conquering that dreaded feeling of "having nothing to wear". If I get in a style slump - a tshirt, ripped jeans and lace up flats are my go-to. If I need to be more dressed up, I add a blazer and some jewels. It's as easy as that.

Blazer | Tshirt | Jeans | Shoes | Sunglasses | Stella & Dot Jewelry : Gold Rebel Pendant | Silver Stone Necklace | Gold Delicate Necklace | Earrings | Silver Wrap Bracelet | Gold Engravable Cuff | Brown Beaded Wrap Bracelet | Gold Rings | Terra Ring |

Sidenote: How cute are the new Stella & Dot sunglasses I'm wearing? They are a new product for us and they are selling out FAST. If you have a pair of sunnies from the new collection on your wishlist, buy them now because they won't be available till Fall.  (Don't say I didn't warn you.) Click HERE to order through my site.

Birchbox/Benefit Brow Event

About 2 weeks ago, I attended an event put on by Birchbox and Benefit Cosmetics in downtown San Francisco. I've been to some of their events before (which do not disappoint) so when I got this invite, I wasn't going to miss out. First off, you're greeted with champagne. Done. End of story. We could end this blog post here, but we won't. I mean who doesn't like shopping and champagne?! Sounds like heaven to me.

One of the main perks of the night (besides the bubbles) was getting your brows done by the Benefit brow girls themselves. They are just SO good at ALL things brows. It's one of those stores where you walk in and everyone that works there has the most amazing eyebrows that are exactly even and the exact same color. and shape. How is that possible?! Well, trust me. They know what they are doing. And also, how adorable is the room where you get your brows waxed? I want that wallpaper in my house someday.

The other amazing takeaway from these events is that they always give you a Birchbox filled with goodies before you leave and $35 credit to spend in the store that night.  Some of my all time favorite products are from Benefit so having a little store credit to spend is a perk for me. My most recent favorite Benefit product that I've been using daily is their Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel. Putting this on your eyebrows gives them rich color and also gives your brows a thicker and fuller look. I also talked about this gel in my Current Beauty Favorites post a while back.

I also took home a full size Rockateur Box o' Powder Blush and The POREfessional Matte Gel. The blush is GORGEOUS and currently my go-to. So happy I took that home.
I've been using the original POREfessional Face Primer for years now and decided to try the new gel like formula. The gel is good, but I think I still like the original primer better. Sometimes there's nothing better than the OG.

Overall, I had such an amazing time! I walked out with a bag full of beauty goodies, a belly full of champagne and cupcakes and some gorgeous looking brows. Thanks to all the girls at Benefit Cosmetics on Chestnut Street in SF, especially to Stephanie for managing my brows and to Michelle for chatting with me about products & store favorites.

If you haven't heard of Birchbox, you can find out more here. And if you have never got your brows shaped or styled at a Benefit brow bar, I highly recommend it. Such a fun experience!

Monday Blues

I use to think that wearing denim with denim was a fashion sin. You could never do it. Not allowed. No matter WHAT. Well, I'm happy to say it's totally on trend and I'm LOVING it. But, you have to do it RIGHT. The key to wearing a denim top with a denim bottom is to make sure that they are not the EXACT same shade of blue. For example, maybe wearing a dark wash jean with a light chambray top. Or vice versa. If the denim is the exact same color, then it's too matchy matchy and you're a fashion catastrophe. Or you can choose to not care and wear it anyway. Whatever floats your boat. You go girl.

I'm currently LOVING this chambray peplum tank from Old Navy. It's comfy and can be worn all summer with denim blue jeans, colored shorts or even white denim. Such a cute top! When it comes to accessories, I like to wear things that pop a little bit with the blue. For example, this saddle tote bag is really noticeable against the blue of the denim. This bag is one of my current favorites because it really goes with any outfit, is the best size for everyday use and gives off a nautical feel that's perfect for spring and summer.

Another rule of denim fashion is to call it quits at two. Denim jeans and a denim top? Don't do a denim bag and tie. It's just a tad too much.

I wore this Old Navy chambray tank last week while shopping in the city and paired it with an army green jacket from Madewell. I chose silver accessories and a patterned bag to add a fun vibe.

When it comes down to it, rules are just rules, and who makes the rules anyways? Denim on denim is a fun trend to try, make your own and accessorize the way that fits your personality best.
I've been having fun styling new denim looks for the past couple of weeks and these are just a couple of tips that have worked best for me.
Happy Monday!

Big Sur

Sometimes the best weekend getaways are ones when you jump in the car, drive down the coast, explore nature and just RELAX.  That was exactly what we did last weekend. We have never been to Big Sur and were in search of a different vacation where we could go away for a weekend, read books, hike and just spend some relaxing time together. Big Sur was the PERFECT place to do just that. I'm excited to share with you the details of our trip below and hopefully it inspires you to take a relaxing weekend getaway sometime soon!

(AND per your requests we are excited to start something new on these travel posts called "His Take" which will be my hubby's opinion/tips/comments about the trip. It will be short and sweet and at the end of each travel post! Enjoy!)

Where We Stayed in Big Sur:

We stayed at the beautiful Glen Oaks Big Sur Inn which was in an ideal location with unique and different lodge-style type rooms. We had a friend who recently stayed here, so we took his recommendation and loved every minute of our stay. (Thanks JB!) We stayed in their "Adobe Fireside Lodge" room that came with a private patio and a two way gas fireplace that was one of the highlights of the room. The bathroom also had heated floors. HEATED FLOORS. How have I ever lived without heated floors?! Pure genius and just amazing.

There was a hiking trail right across the street from the lodge that took you down to a little river with these cute chairs where you can sit, chat and drink coffee. Talk about relaxing.

What We Explored in Big Sur:

Bixby Bridge : Talk about a breathtaking view. Just GORGEOUS! When driving towards Big Sur on Highway 1, you cross over this bridge. It's amazing to think about this bridge being built and to have this beautiful piece of architecture in a landscape full of greenery is amazing. Before you cross over,  pull over to the left or right to get out and take's a MUST.

McWay Falls : The best way to describe this gorgeous view is : NEVERLAND. I honestly believe that when they filmed Peter Pan or Hook that they used McWay Falls as inspiration for the Neverland scenes. (I mean, I'm probably totally right) The beautiful waterfall, the bluest blue water, and the empty beach below is just the perfect setting for gorgeous pictures. There are a couple of hikes around McWay Falls and I highly recommend at least stopping to take some pictures. It's absolutely beautiful.

(Here are a couple of views and hikes from around our inn. You are never short of pretty views in Big Sur. I mean...look at those huge gorgeous tall trees!)

Where We Ate in Big Sur:

Big Sur Bakery : Talk about perfect in every way. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and they have a full espresso bar with homemade pastries. It's a one stop shop. We had dinner here our first night, ordering the pizza special with sausage and the brussel sprouts to start. (Plus paired with some Pinot Noir...duh!)  Everything was SO good. On the day we left, we stopped here for coffee and pastries, which of course didn't disappoint. Such a cute spot with INCREDIBLE food.  Next time we come back, we are going to brunch here....the brunch menu looked ridiculous!

Nepenthe : Oh Nepenthe...what a dream. Seriously though, that's how I felt through the entire lunch. Nepenthe is a greek style restaurant on top of a cliff overlooking the water and Big Sur mountains. It's absolutely breathtaking/gorgeous/you never want to leave.....the list goes on. Not only is the view amazing, the food is SO good. We ordered the basket of fries (thanks again JB), the artichoke and shared the special burger. Everything was melt in your mouth good.  The wait can be long but while you are waiting you can grab a drink and walk around/take pictures. It's worth the wait.

(Funny story- we walked up to put our name in, hearing that the wait was over an hour. Oh well, worth it right!? A guy approached us and said that he reserved a table for two but couldn't wait that long so he wanted to know if we wanted his spot/buzzer. We said yes and he proceeded with "don't forget your name is Alex when they call it". Five minutes later "Alex party of two" was called. We walked up to the hostess stand with huge smiles on our faces. "Alex?" Yes thats us! "Welcome to Nepenthe, here is your table". Talk about lucky. )

(Nepenthe's outdoor firepit/patio)

Cafe Kevah - This place is attached to the Nepenthe restaurant and serves a delicious breakfast and brunch. All the tables are outside and once again, the view does not disappoint. I had the most delicious yogurt and berry bowl to start the day with a perfect cappuccino. The tables fill up fast and it's first come first serve, so get there on the earlier side. They also serve wine and cheese platters for mid-day stops if you just wanted to head up, snack and enjoy the view with a glass of wine.

The Restaurant at Ventana : If you are looking for a fancier dinner with amazing views, this is your spot. Tucked away in the Big Sur mountains lies the Ventana Inn, which is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous views and an absolutely delicious restaurant. A little bit on the pricer side for dinner but everything we ate and drank was mouth watering. They have a very fun cocktail menu as well. We finished dinner and took the rest of our wine outside to watch the sunset. It was beautiful!

(The sunset at Ventana Inn)

Big Sur Taphouse : What a fun spot! If you like beer, this is the place for you. A cute little taphouse with about 8 beers on tap, this place is the perfect spot for a good outdoor vibe in the summer or for watching your favorite sports games inside. I'm a little picky when it comes to "sports bars" and I was very impressed with this place. The outdoor patio is the definition of RELAXING.

Big Sur Roadhouse : This was the place RIGHT across the street from where we stayed. You literally walked right outside your room, crossed the street and you were there. They are currently changing chefs so they are not serving meals but they are serving small apps and drinks. They have an outdoor area (surrounded with succulents!) with a couple of fire pits. We stopped here for happy hour from 3-5 and for our morning coffee. A cute little spot that will definitely blossom into something very fun.

(These were the HOMEMADE donuts from the Big Sur Roadhouse across the way from Glen Oaks. These donuts and coffee were included in our stay every morning. DELISH.)

Overall it was an unforgettable weekend full of gorgeous scenery and quality time together. Next time we go we will for sure make a stop at the iconic purple sand beach - Pfeiffer Beach. (It was closed because of a mudslide that was blocking the road.) We will also make reservations to eat at Deetjens for dinner as we heard it has unbelievable food and a cozy atmosphere.
Now for his take...... Thanks for reading!

His Take :

I'm a proud husband reading Ash's blog every week. Her passion and zest for life reads through each line. We are lucky to get to travel and enjoy all of the fun that we do. Work hard, play hard. Right? I'm not sure what I add to this space, but I've been asked for a quick take on our travels. As in "if your other half was going to read a few lines," here it is:

Big Sur is incredible. Great views, good food, nice people, a very do-able weekend getaway from the Bay Area. The food/drink anywhere you go is good (Nepenthe was my favorite, bring your guy to Big Sur Taphouse for an 'Instagram break'). As with anywhere in the world - you pay for the view. In my opinion - worth it.  Basket of french fries and an IPA on top of a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean? It could be worse.

This is a trip where your wife brings her phone to take pictures and yours could stay in the room. Why? 1) You don't have service  2) You don't really want it. I've spent some time at the beach, this is one of the best views/relaxing spots I've ever been to.

**Travel Tip (good just about anywhere): BYO Wine. Bring your wine to dinner. First, make reservations (it's the gentlemanly thing to do + use Open Table + accrue points).  Ask what the corkage fee is. I used to think it looked "cheap" to bring a bottle. Now, I'm not the guy drinking a $14 glass of J Lohr.

Happy Travels - Bryan.
