Casual Weekend Style

One of my favorite weekend activities is going to a park, laying out a blanket and relaxing with my hubby or friends. Whether it's a park down the street from our house or by the Golden Gate in San Francisco, it's so nice to just get a little vitamin D and fresh air after working all week.  I also love bringing along little bit of Rosé bubbles and snacks to enjoy while hanging out in the sunshine.

When my friend Lori from Lil Haute Rod Boutique sent me this super fun graphic sweater, I knew it was perfect for a day of sipping rosé bubbles in the park. Not only is my love for all graphic tees and pullovers a very serious thing, I'm all in for anything that is cozy AND cute. This sweater is light and perfect with jeans for a comfortable weekend look. I actually thought about sleeping in it the other day, it's THAT cozy.

Want to hear the good news now!? The lovely girls at Lil Haute Rod Boutique are giving my readers 20% off at checkout with promo code : ASHLEYLOVESLHR
AND shipping is always free! They have some of the cutest graphic tees and pullovers including some of my other favorites like this onethis one and this cute tank for St. Patrick's Day!  Nothing like a little Friday deal - Have an amazing weekend!  Maybe even picnic in the park? With rosé?! xo

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Taking care of my skin has always been very important to me and something I'm constantly experiencing with. I've been pretty lucky my whole life in that I don't have acne prone skin, but I do deal with combination skin - dry in some places, oily in others. Recently over the past couple of months, I've noticed that my skin has been SO dry. Usually during the winter months, my skin will get dry, but this was totally different.  My makeup didn't look good, my skin was flaky and sometimes at night it was actually itchy it was so dry. I was trying everything from deep hydrating masks, expensive facials, drinking TONS of water, trying not to wash my face more than once a day....the list goes on.

I've used many products but I continue to always go back to two of my favorite brands - Kiehl's and Origins. I've had my most healthiest skin when using these products throughout the years so I thought it was about time for a little tune up. I decided about a month ago to go into the Kiehl's store, sit down with someone and discuss this dry skin problem I was having. My skin was desperate for help.

I sat down with a super helpful (and sweet!) employee named Sara who was bound to solve all my problems. She took out this tool that they have called a "Dehydration Analyzer" that is suppose to give you a number that tells you exactly how dehydrated your skin is. The number you want to aim for is around 50. That means your skin is hydrated, doing great and in the clear. 30 - 40 means your skin is slightly dehydrated and under 30 means you have a major moisture problem going on. She placed the pen on my cheek and low and behold my number came back at 27. YIKES. I mean, I knew something was wrong, but this was crazy! We then decided that I needed a major moisturizing regimen change and  came up with a list of products to try and see if there was any noticeable difference.

I decided the only thing I was going to keep the same was my cleanser. I've used many cleansers and I always come back to the same two - "A Perfect World" & "GinZing", both by Origins. I use the Perfect World cleanser about 5 days a week and the GinZing cleanser the other two days. The GinZing cleanser acts more like an exfoliate which I don't want to do every night, but doing at least twice a week really helps my skin.  It smells incredible (like oranges) and leaves my skin feeling so amazing. A new item I added into my routine which I use right after washing my face is Kiehl's Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate. This stuff is great! You only need the smallest amount and it goes a long way. The way my face feels after applying this is smooth and so refreshed.

Three to four nights a week after the serum, I'll apply Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate Oil. I discovered that using this oil every night made my skin a little too oily during the day, but I loved the results when using it just a couple of times a week. I call this oil "liquid gold" because I feel like its worth every penny and such a game changer. The oil seeps right into your skin throughout the night and when you wake up your face is glowing. This oil is a new favorite for me! (FYI, Kiehl's will give you little samples of anything you want to try. If you have never used an oil on your face and are nervous, ask for a sample so you can try it before making the purchase and see for yourself how great it is!)

After the oil, I'll apply Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye Cream under and around my eyes. In the past I've used Kiehl's Creamy Under Eye Treatment With Avocado which is also a wonderful hydrating eye cream, but I wanted to switch is up and try something new this time around. So far, I'm loving this one.
After the eye cream, I'll apply Kiehl's Super Multi-Corrective Cream all over my face. This is a very rich facial cream that really hydrates and corrects the skin. The smell is calming and my skin feels so moisturized and relaxed after using this.

Last but not least, I end with moisturizing my lips. I use Bobbi Brown Lip Balm and love how soft my lips feel in the morning. It's not fragrant and doesn't taste like anything so it's perfect for night time. I also just love how pretty it is!

Two other nighttime routine skin care items that I've been recently loving and use about 1-2 times a week are Origin's Drink Up Intensive Mask and Honest Hazel Eye Gels. I use the mask maybe once during the week or when I'm traveling and when my face needs a little extra hydration boost. The Honest Hazel Eye Gels are new to me and I'm so happy with them! I put them in the fridge for about 20 minutes before applying them under my eyes to help with fine lines, pigmentation and dark circles. I can definitely tell a difference when I use these before bed and will probably start using them sometimes during the day for a little refreshed look around my eyes. Also these are great for those emergency days when crying is in the picture and you need to give your eyes a little extra love!

After about a month of this routine, I went back to Kiehl's to have my skin's hydration level tested again. I knew going into the store for a second time that my skin was totally different than when I started. I could feel it AND see it. No more flaky skin, my makeup looked smooth on my face and the itchiness was gone. But I also wanted to see how dramatically the number had improved. Low and behold I was at a 42! I knew it jumped up but was shocked at how far in just a short amount of time. Needless to say, I think I will be sticking to this routine for the next couple of months as my face finally looks and feels healthy.  I highly recommend going to Kiehl's and having your skin tested - it's  free and can really help steer you in the right direction to tackle whatever skin problems you are having. I'm so glad I did!

Comfy Fringe Tee

When I think of a comfortable "weekend" outfit, I go straight to my ripped boyfriend style jeans and my converse sneakers. Easy to wear and comfortable. When I found this adorable comfy fringe tee, I knew it was a match made in heaven. It's simple but adds a little bit of fun and flare with the fringe detail. It comes in two different colors and is so affordable. This is just one of those outfits that is so easy to wear and throw on but at the same time you look cute & put together. Let's be honest, you really can't go wrong with a fun tee, ripped jeans, and a top's weekend style at its finest!

(If only you guys could hear the wise jokes my hilarious hubby was cracking behind the camera at this moment!)

I also can't get enough of this adorable "spring" cross-body bag that matches with absolutely everything and looks so much more fancier than what the price tag depicts. I've been wearing it lately with everything from jeans and a tee to a spring styled dress with boots. Perfection!

What's In My Carry-On Bag

Let's face it. There is nothing worse then getting on a flight and realizing that you forgot to pack something. It's actually tragic. With all of our traveling, I have learned to perfect my carry on bag to have the necessities to keep me happy and comfortable during the flight. Here are a few of my must haves!

First off, let's talk about the bag, which is probably one of the most important essentials.  I've traveled with many bags, some being to bulky, some not big enough, some too hard to carry and some that have actually broke on me mid travel. The bag that has worked the best for me the past two years is the Stella & Dot Getaway Bag. Not only is this bag the perfect size, it comes in so many cute colors and patterns. My favorite patterns right now are this one & this one. One of the greatest qualities of this bag is that it expands to a bigger size if needed. There are always those trips where you pick up a few extra souvenirs that you can't fit in your luggage - just unzip the bottom of the carry on and viola! Room for many more souvenirs to bring home!

(How cute are the little inside details?!?)

I also love traveling with this adorable pink & rose gold passport holder. It makes finding the passport in your bag so much easier and it looks so cute while going through security! It also has a slot on the inside for cards or for your boarding pass if needed.

Entertainment during the flight is key while traveling, at least for me. If I'm bored, the flight always seems ten times longer! My FRENDS Headphones are my absolute favorite headphones for traveling because they are compact, fold to fit into a small bag and are just gorgeous! I always make sure to bring with me either my ipad mini for watching movies/listening to music, a fun magazine or a good book. Usually I rotate through all three during a flight to switch things up. I talked about some of my favorite current reads in this post here if you need some book inspiration. I also always make sure to bring some sort of notebook on a trip for jotting down notes of places we visited and restaurants/shops/sites we loved. Rifle Paper Co is my go-to for cute notebooks. These pocket notebooks are perfect for sticking in your purse on the go and these bigger Parisian notebooks are what I put in my carry on bag for notes and such.

Carrying essentials for AFTER the flight in your carry-on bag is a must. After I get off a flight, my first stop is the bathroom where I freshen up a little bit. (Bryan & I usually hit the ground running once we land in a new city, sometimes going to site see before hitting the hotel!) And if you've checked luggage, you have about 10-15 minutes to spare anyways! I always make sure to pack a small perfume (usually Jo Malone's Blackberry & Bay), hairspray to freshen up those airplane fly aways, lipgloss (duh!), hand lotion because the airplane drys your skin out and my favorite Caudalie Beauty Elixir Spray. Those 5 little beauty items always make me feel put together & freshened up after a long flight. Also, don't forget to always make your sunnies easy accessible in your bag so that you have them once you are out and about!

Where are you headed next? I can't wait for our next trip! Happy travels!
