2016 - What A Year!

Well folks, 2016 was one for the books. 
Here are a "few" of my highlights - Over 15 different trips/vacations, watching the success of this little blog, becoming an Associate Director with Stella & Dot, over 30 different collaborations with some fun companies, shooting the Stella & Dot Spring line for the upcoming catalog, doing a Facebook live styling video with Stella & Dot, being hosted by the Capitola hotel for the weekend, the list goes on. NYC Red Eye Flight Must Haves

Have you guys ever taken a red eye flight?!
Well, as I type this, we are currently on one, on our way to NEW YORK CITY! This is our third trip to NYC during Christmas time (you can find my post from last year here), and our third red eye flight to NYC. By now, we have a routine down so that when we land at 7am, we are rested and ready for a full day in the city.  Let me tell you, comfort is key. And a sleeping aid. And maybe a glass of red wine.
I decided to put together a post with everything I took with me for the flight, including what I wore on the plane and what I carried in my carry on for during the flight and when the flight lands. (I'm serious when I say everything in the picture above is EXACTLY what I'm wearing and carrying on. No ads here. No sponsored post. This is legit my travel style must haves.)

The Lace Bomber Jacket

Whenever I'm out and about shopping, I'm always looking for pieces that will add something different to my wardrobe. When I saw this lace bomber jacket, it was love at first sight. Bomber jackets are so on trend right now and this red lace detail added a little flair and fun to your regular bomber jacket look.

It also always fun to buy someone a new planner for the new year as a simple but great gift that will most likely get used. This is my third year using the Sugar Paper planners and I absolutely love them. I also gifted these to some of my friends last year and they raved about it!

Meet Zoe : One Necklace, Mulitple Ways

I've never done an entire blog post on one piece of jewelry, but after MULTIPLE wears and SO many compliments, I decided that this pretty little necklace deserved her own blog post. Meet the Zoe Lariat Necklace. One single necklace, no clasp, mixed metal brass beads, and multiple different ways to style it. This is my go-to travel necklace as I can get multiple looks out of it during a trip without packing a closet full of jewels. You can also dress this necklace up with a black tie gown or down with a t-shirt and jeans. She really is an overall versatile, everyday wear piece.

Celebrating ONE Year!

Oh my goodness. 
One year ago TODAY I launched this little blog of mine.
 I remember that day SO clearly mostly because of the fear I felt. What were people going to think of me? Was anyone even going to read it? Do I even know what I'm talking about? Am I wasting my time? So much self doubt filled my head in the weeks leading up to the day I hit "publish".
Well, 12 months later, 82 published posts, fun opportunities with companies I never thought imaginable, multiple piles of "blog" looks, SO many loving comments, 882 re-pins on Pinterest, and over 42,000 blog views, I'm so happy I pushed that fear aside and just decided to go for it. Words cannot express my excitement, gratitude, heartfelt love and thankfulness to EVERY single one of you. Whether you've supported my blog from day one, viewed it once a month, shared a post or commented and interacted, I appreciate you.

Fall Trend : The Faux Fur Vest

Dear faux fur vest, you are SO fun to wear. I'm very sorry I judged you last year.  
I remember seeing these vests everywhere last fall season and not really "feelin" the trend. This year I saw how popular they were again and decided to try one on just for fun. To my surprised, I loved it and it came home with me that day. Ever since then, I've found myself wanting to wear it over so many different pieces in my wardrobe......sweaters, long sleeve swing dresses, henley tops, etc. The fur detail just screams holiday to me, making it perfect for the upcoming season. Throw it over a sweater with jeans & booties like I did above for a girls wine night, or over a simple dress with tights for a holiday party.  Such a fun wardrobe piece to dress up any outfit!

Thanksgiving Day Outfit Ideas

I seriously cannot believe that this upcoming Thursday is Thanksgiving! I have to say that Thanksgiving is high on my list of favorite holidays not only because of the family time & delicious food, but because of my Thanksgiving Day outfit! I almost always have what I'm wearing for Thanksgiving planned out and ready at least two weeks before the actual day. You can call me crazy. That's ok. I call it organized.  I just LOVE having an outfit planned that is fashion forward yet comfortable & cozy for the big day. 
Are you the opposite of me and have trouble deciding what to wear for the Thanksgiving holiday? Well, I'm here to help and give you some good ideas!

I like to pull together an outfit that can be dressed up but also very comfortable at the same time. Let's be honest, no one wants to wear their super tight jeans on Thanksgiving Day. That's not fun. If you need to be more dressed up, I would go with a comfortable & neutral swing or shift dress like this one or this one that you can easily dress up with any jewels and a fun fall blanket scarf like this one here. (This is probably my favorite scarf as of right now! Great fall colors and such a fun pattern).
Here are some other fun scarf options here,  here, and here. Dress the outfit up with cable knit tights, like these ones from Jcrew and some heeled booties like these here. Not cold enough? Scratch the tights and wear some comfortable yet trendy over the knee boots.

Need a more comfortable outfit but still want to look fashion forward? Choose classic black leggings and an oversized sweater - options herehere & here. Pair it with either of the boot options pictured above and a fun patterned scarf and you have an easy pulled together look.

Must Have Lip Colors For Fall

Well, it's clearly obvious through most of my beauty posts that I LOVE LIPSTICK.  I feel like it's a very simple way to add a pop of color to any outfit. Sometimes when I feel like wearing a neutral top, dress or sweater, I put on a bright lip to add some fun to the outfit.  I shared some of my favorite lip colors at the beginning of the year in this post here and some of them I'm still wearing on repeat. That just means I must REALLY love them. The colors I chose for this post are more geared towards fall and holiday and would be the perfect lip colors for your Thanksgiving outfit or holiday party dress. Enjoy!

The Perfect Poncho

We all have those days when tight clothing just doesn't sound like a good idea. Those are the days when I choose comfy black leggings and a loose fitting poncho or oversized sweater to wear. Super easy to dress up with boots and jewels to make you look very put together (even though you may not feel like it!) I've been spotting ponchos all over retail stores this season and when I found this one for under $25, I knew it was "blog post worthy". Long enough to wear with black leggings, a gorgeous olive green color, budget friendly, also comes in black and just fits perfectly.

Happy Friday! Everyone's favorite day of the week!
The other day someone asked me if I online shop for a living. I laughed out loud and responded with "Nope. I would say I online BROWSE for a living!" I'm constantly browsing new arrivals, seasonal styles and new trends because that is where I get a lot of my outfit inspiration. I've recently found some great styles & fall pieces, so I thought I would share them with you!

Let's start with this sweater. Super basic, a GREAT layering piece, comes in multiple colors and under $40. (Runs big. I have this sweater in an XS and LOVE it. Described in one word? COMFY). I've been loving layering sweaters or striped tees with this quilted vest, which I recently just purchased in grey. That grey vest with these burgundy booties is total fall outfit perfection.

The Simple "Not Too Short" Swing Dress

Swing dresses. So simple but sometimes so hard to find the perfect one. I love a good basic long-sleeve swing dress in the fall because you can wear it SO many ways. Wear it with tights and a big scarf and coat in colder weather. Wear it with no tights and simple booties in warmer weather. Throw a vest over it to add some character. The options are endless. One of my biggest problems when finding a good swing dress is the length. I don't like my dresses too short. OK. FINE. Call me modest but I REALLY don't want to bend down and flash the people around me. No one wants to worry about that!

A couple of weeks ago, Bryan & I escaped for the weekend to explore the little town of Capitola. We really didn't know what to expect but were SO pleased with our visit that we are already making plans to go back! Such a charming little town with some great restaurants, wine bars, shops and a gorgeous view of the water. It's a quick 1.5 hour trip from the Bay Area, so it makes for the perfect weekend getaway. If you live close, you should definitely add it to your travel list!

Rainy Day Wear

We got a little bit of teaser rain weather last week and I loved every minute of it. (Now it's back to 75 degrees!) There's just something about being bundled up in big blanket scarves and comfy sweaters all while romping around in my favorite Hunter rain boots. Seriously though, if you don't own a pair of these rain boots, put them on your Christmas list. I've had these black ones for 3 years now and they are just as comfortable and on trend as they were when I first bought them. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, including these adorable floral ones and these gorgeous burgundy ones. So many options, you can't go wrong.

Favorite Fall Beauty Products

It's been a while since I've done a beauty post, so I thought I would share with you some of the products that have been on repeat for me this fall season. I tend to stick to products that are easy to travel with, simple to apply and go well with the colors of the season. It can get tricky switching over to makeup that goes well with your "fall & winter" skin tone as I personally usually loose my tan olive glow and become a little bit paler. (Isn't it the WORST loosing that summer tan?!) All in all, I think I've found just the right combination of products this fall season that give my skin the perfect glow.

Sweater Weather

Every fall season, I'm drawn to cozy sweaters. Big chunky turtlenecks, lightweight cardigans, knit pullovers, the list goes on.  Finding a sweater that isn't too itchy or doesn't make you look ten pounds heavier can be hard. Inevitably every fall season, I buy a couple of different sweaters and find myself wearing one of them over an over. When I found this super cozy zip back sweater last week, I knew it was going to be a fall staple for me the next few months. Am I going to wear it on repeat?
(Seriously though....who really likes to wear an itchy sweater?! No one.)

Fall Trend : The Suede Skirt

If you've been following any style trends this fall, you've probably noticed a lot of suede. Suede moto jackets, suede vests and the super popular trend of the suede skirt. It's actually been one of my favorite looks so far this fall because you can wear it so many different ways. 
Still hot outside? Wear it with a tank/swing tee and booties. 
Cold but not too cold? Wear it with a turtleneck or light weight sweater (my current go-to light weight sweater right now is this one here). 
Cold cold? Wear it with tights, a turtleneck sweater and a cute blanket scarf. 
So much versatility with just one piece of clothing, so much so that I've actually decided to add this piece into my staple wardrobe. A classic suede pencil skirt. Such a good idea.

Fall's Best Boots (all under $100)

So by now, you know I love everything about the fall season.
BUT to be honest, one of my favorite things about styling outfits this time of the year has got to be the amazing fall boot selection. I mean, you can never have too many. Over the knee boots, ankle boots, booties, riding boots, boots with a heel, wedge boots, the list goes on. So many different styles and colors, the options are really endless. I've already mentioned a couple of my current favorite boots in this post here and this post here but wanted to share with you some other great fall boot finds that are under $100 and are great neutral everyday boots to have ready and waiting in your wardrobe.

Mixing Neutrals

I was hanging out with some of my dearest girlfriends the other night, enjoying a good glass of wine and chatting about the usual...husbands, travels, shopping, jewels and clothes. Mid conversation, one of my girlfriends asked, "Is it still a rule that you aren't suppose to wear black shades with brown shades?" Can you guess what my response was?! FORGET THE RULES! Actually, mixing neutral shades of black, brown and grey is a go-to easy look. The neutral shades flow well together and you can add a pop of color with a bold lip or a fun accessory. I decided to style an easy look with a simple grey tee to prove my point. 
Mixing neutrals is WAY ok and SUPER easy.

Monterey & Carmel-By-the-Sea

About a week ago, Bryan surprised me with an overnight trip to Monterey & Carmel and I couldn't be more excited. We go about once a year, as Monterey is about a 2 hour drive from the Bay Area, making it such an easy and fun weekend getaway. We've been many times and still continue to explore new places to eat while also continuing to go back to some of our go-to favorite spots. Monterey is one of those relaxing places where you can just sit on a bench with a latte and watch the water or walk the colorful wharf and sample some of the best clam chowder you've ever had in your life. Definitely one of my favorite spots for a spontaneous weekend getaway.

Burgundy Swing Dress

When I think fall, I get really excited about all things burgundy. It's probably one of my favorite colors to style during the fall season, along with shades of olive and army green. But let's stick with burgundy for now. Burgundy matches with most other fall colors, including shades of black & brown which make a greater appearance during the fall and winter months. Remember last year when I posted about that simple black & white flannel dress? I paired it with a beautiful solid burgundy scarf and voila! A match made in heaven. When I found this adorable burgundy swing dress last week, I knew it was another great find for this fall season. It can be worn with tights, a scarf and boots for cooler days or just alone with sandals or ankle booties. AND it comes in a variety of colors and patterns (including almost the exact same black & white pattern from last season).

 The city where we ate, drank, ate, drank, and ate some more. So many good places to enjoy brunch, a crafty cocktail or a delicious maple & bacon donut. Yes Voodoo, I'm talking about you.  Full disclosure, this is really going to be a blog post more focused on the restaurants we ate at and the bars we went to, as we didn't have a car to go outside the city to enjoy the more naturesque side of Portland. We probably came home 5lbs heavier, but everything we ate was worth it. I mean, the breakfast corn dog at Screen Door......enough said.  All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed walking around and experiencing all the "weirdness" Portland had to offer.
(By the way,  I'm totally ok with the extra 5lbs. We can go back a hike another time.)

Fall Trend : The Cape Blazer

Oh September! The beginning of pumpkin spiced lattes, big blanket scarfs, boots, and amazing fall fashion. Don't get me wrong, I love summer style but I also REALLY love the fashion and trends that come along with fall. This fall season there are some fun trends that are creating a lot of buzz, one of them being the cape blazer. It has the chicness of a simple black blazer but with slits in the side creating the look of a cape. SO fun!

This Neckline. What Jewelry?

Chokers. Statement pieces. Delicates. Layered jewels. Collars. So many necklaces but what style shirt do you where them with?

One of the most COMMON statements I get from women when talking about necklaces is "I never know what jewelry to where with what neckline." I use to be so stumped by this. And then I kept experimenting. I would put on my outfit and try on different necklaces until I got a combination I thought looked the best. Now it's easy. I can look at a shirt and say, "I need a bib necklace for this or a longer pendant necklace for that." So I'm going to try to help you out today and hopefully teach you how to style your v-neck shirts, high neck blouses, turtlenecks and so on. Let's jump in!

Every summer, my family takes a vacation to the beautiful island of Kauai. For the past two years we've done a ton of island activities such as zipliningatv tourshelicopter rides, catamaran boat rides and surf lessons. We've loved every second of our last two trips but wanted to do something a little different this year. We wanted to relax, check out different beaches, head to Princeville for a day and lay low for the week. Oh...and eat and drink and eat and drink. I mean, what's a good vacation without amazing food and some delicious Mai Tais?!?

Humidity. Ugh. One of my least favorite things on the planet. Every year, my family goes to Hawaii and for the past two years, I've tried to fight the humidity against my naturally curly hair. I would spend tons of time trying to style it with hot tools just like I did at home and then walk outside and in 10 minutes be dealing with a huge frizz fest. NOT fun.

Summer Maxi Slip Dress

When I travel, I like to bring along items that can be worn multiple ways and are comfortable. When I found this loose, flowy maxi slip dress I knew it was perfect for multiple occasions including upcoming summer activities. 
I wore this dress about a month ago dressed up with heels and delicate jewelry to a friends wedding. I then packed it in my bag and wore it on our most recent family trip to Kauai. I paired it with sandals as we were on the beach a lot. It's very easy to wear and perfect for traveling as you can dress it up with heels & a statement necklace or dress it down with a denim jacket, simple essential jewels and flip flops.
